So, GenCon is happening August 5-8th (Thursday - Sunday). Are people interested in going? gencon.com/2010/indy/default.aspxI don't know what sorts of events are happening but typically there are multiple PTQ's and Block/Standard/Extended/Legacy/Vintage events. Pretty much, if you want to play any type of magic, it's available in tournament form. Pre-Registering costs $68 for the whole weekend if you do it by June 20th. At this time, I think I'm going to go for all 4 days. My schedule switches from Thursday/Friday off to Saturday/Sunday off then. So, we get a 4 day weekend that coincides with Gencon I need to confirm but it should work out!

Pretty sure I'm onboard, I'll have to wait until June to see how finances are, but otherwise I'd really like to.

Ok, I have some updates regarding GenCon.
I know many of you have branched off to other States, but GenCon is the mother of all events and most of us haven't been in forever (if at all). We all enjoy magic, but this is about much more than magic, this is the pinnacle of all collectibles, games, etc, and just an all around pro weekend of stuff. Downtown Indy is also a cool place to be, Travis and I had fun there last time (despite a negative tournament experience).
ALSO, it's a chance to go on a fun roady, something we all haven't done in a while. It's later in the summer, but not so late that those of you still taking classes have to start up again, so hopefully this will allow some schedule flexibility.
Let me cut to the chase
I looked over some finances, and with some of my savings what I'm going to do (closer to event time) is get a hotel for Friday and Saturday nights. I'm going to pay for it, as not only do I really want to go, but I also want to ease the burden on others who want to but who may have dismissed it for financial reasons. For me it's no big deal, as it's much more worth it to make the trip possible.
That only leaves the cost of the Entry and Gas. Assuming we can get a car of 2-5 people, gas shouldn't exceed $20-25 per person (probably less). Chris mentioned the entry is $68 if you register by June 20th, otherwise I believe it's around $75-80. Either way, that's not too bad for a weekend pass considering the hotel will be covered.
The plan right now is that I think I'm going to take off work on that Friday, and myself (or our group) could leave early (between say 8am-noon), and thus get to Indy at a reasonable time and start having fun there. We'd then come back Sunday night. It's about 5 hr 30 min drive, so not terrible (about the same as Minneap).
So if your interested, again, I'm covering the hotel, just let me know if you think you're going to go. I'll be driving my car, unless someone has a big Van that we could roll with (ornstein style)

I wish I could throw in for the car ride but I think I'll just spring for a plane ticket into Indy. I am not yet 100% committed but I'm 95% in and should know by mid week if I'm going or not. If I'm going, I'm doing all 4 days and not some weaksauce weekend shit ALSO, PRE-REGISTRATION ENDS THIS WEEK!!!So get your tickets now!!! PS: John, I am willing to throw in on the hotel if I can be guaranteed a bed. I'm not spending 4 days on the floor... If we get a lot of interest, I would also be willing to shell out for a room by myself and then open up the other beds/floor space to others. I have a feeling that the typical group from Misty/Netherworld will be showing up and might want to 'borrow' some floor space.
