Alright so Extended PTQ's are coming up and I for one will be starting to test. I have not played EXT in a couple seasons so I need to refresh. I started a little testing group for states an we got a kinda mailing list going. So question 1, Would anybody wish to be added to the mailing list. If so Send your email to test_your_magic@yahoo.com an Ill add you. Second what days are people open, Ill do my best to set them up at times when most everyone is available. Also at these from now on snacks will be provided. Last if anyone could send me tier 1 extended decks as of now that would be awesome so I can start to proxie them. Hope to hear from you soon

The obvious Tier 1: Zoo (IMHO the 'best' deck at the moment) Dredge
Tier 1.5 (may be tier 1): Affinity Hypergenesis Dark Depths/Hexmage Scapeshift/Valakut
Tier 2: Mono-Red Burn Bant

Zoo or Affinity. Personally, I own Affinity and it is good (say 40-60 in some of it's worst matchups). But ultimately I think Zoo is a stronger deck.
The one downside to zoo is that the deck costs $600 (or more). Tarmogoyf + Baneslayer + fetchs + Rav Duals + Knight of the Reliquary + Noble Hierarch = crazy money. I think if you went on SCG and bought the cards for the deck it would cost you over a grand.

Yeah, there's just no way I'm going to spend a grand on an Extended deck like that. I've got a few Ravnica duals (at least one of each), and I'll be trying to acquire some more, but I don't think I'll be forking over the cash for Tarmogoyf or Baneslayer Angel anytime soon.
I could see myself playing Scapeshift, which would mean I'd need to get myself a set of those cool-looking DCI foil Sakura-Tribe Elders. I could also see myself playing Bant, since I have most of the duals for that deck (although I still don't have Baneslayers). I'll probably just build something based on whatever duals I can come up with and go from there.
The problem I have with Extended is that I'm just not familiar with the format, and it features a lot of cards that I haven't played with (anything pre-Lorwyn).

I love myself some Zoo critters. Affinity's cute, but it feels too fragile right now. I also don't want to be playing any control, though I do have two sets of Scapeshift if a proper list comes around. Apart from one Grove, a couple Baneslayers, and a bunch of random sideboard stuff, I have the entire deck. I'll probably end up doing what John did and let a dealer turn my binder around, pull down its pants and have his way with it.

Travis, you realize I spent $150 on my extended deck (total), hadn't played extended before my first tournament, and was one win away from top 8 at the end of the season? Not to mention this year I am going to spend $1 to bring my Affinity up to the 'new' extended and have a competitive deck to play all year long.
And it's not like Rav Duals, Fetch Lands, Baneslayer Angel, or Tarmogoyf are going to go down in price any time soon. Son, that's an investment! How much are your Cryptic Commands and Bitterblossoms worth now?

I dumped my Bitterblossoms before they fell in price (and before they printed Great Sable Stag), so I didn't lose anything on those.
I still use my Cryptic Commands, and I will probably continue to use them in one way or another.

This sounds like a good plan. Extended's actually really tough to predict right now though as I don't think even the pros are settled on what are the best decks right now. Austin was kind of a toss-up, because while Kibler won with his Rubin Zoo (which you guys should differentiate btw), the deck didn't finish as well across the board at Worlds.
Dark Depths and Dredge are both very good. I'm halfway interested in playing dredge only because it's about 80-90% game 1 lock.
Travis, we really need your help with playtesting and there's no doubt in my mind that we can find a deck that's competitive that you have most of the cards for. Heck, I rolled with two offbrews last season (my homebrew elves and extended boat brew), and both of them did fine. I went 5-3 in the Madison PTQ and 5-2-1 20th place in the Minneapolis PTQ (with my losses coming off dumbass mistakes).
I think the only stuff that would require any spending are whatever shock and fetch lands you have to fill in gaps with. And with the new fetches, usually those can be subbed for the old ones. Cards like Tarmogoyf can be played without if you simply play a deck that doesn't include him. Stuff like Affinity, Tezzeret, Dark Depths, and Dredge all don't require him (I think*). So in the end pricing for decks is not as bad as it looks on paper since you probably own the rest of the cards.
I'm sure I'll scrounge something out of my cards, if anything I might buy tarmogoyf at some point but that's only if I can't rework my boat brew until it's competitive. I really loved that deck at minneap last year and felt that it could have easily won the tournament. My toughest matchup was loam and that is not around anymore, so I would just have to tune the deck to be able to beat depths, rubin zoo, and dredge, and I'm sure it's possible since I won so many games post-board anyways.

I'll be happy to help out by playing the role of "test dummy" with whatever you guys need help against. I just don't think I'll be putting any lists together if they have Baneslayer Angel or Tarmogoyf in them (unless they are proxied).
I'm also working on getting ahold of some more Ravnica dual lands. Those have always been a worthwhile investment.

I fun combo that is effective s far in my testing is Project-xtended. You know saffi plus crytpt champinion plus an lifegain creature(essence or soul warden but my favorite auriok Champion, pro red pro black suck that removal) Plus your bord control and some kitchen finks and tutors. I have not lost a game with it yet and I will be posting results in the threafd i started. on another note Next monday, how many can make it to test at netherworld for extended to get the ball rolling.
