This thread is for the discussion of all things Naya in Extended. It's mostly here to document my own thoughts on the subject, but commentary is always welcome.
There are two main ideas that I've been playing with for the upcoming Extended format.
- The first part is the more popular Fauna Shaman/Bloodbraid Elf/Vengevine mid-range aggro deck that is doing fairly well in recent PTQs.
- The second part is the package of four Prismatic Omens and four Valakuts. Since I'm already playing these colors, it would seem easy enough to just add these in.
The Naya decks that I've seen so far run some combination of the following spells:
- 1cc: Birds of Paradise, Figure of Destiny, Noble Hierarch
- 2cc: Fauna Shaman, Plated Geopede, Qasali Pridemage, Squadron Hawk, Stoneforge Mystic
- 3cc: Boggart Ram-Gang, Cunning Sparkmage, Fulminator Mage, Great Sable Stag, Kitchen Finks, Knight of the Reliquary, Woolly Thoctar
- 4cc: Bloodbraid Elf, Vengevine
- Non-creature spells: Ajani Vengeant, Basilisk Collar, Elspeth Knight-Errant, Lightning Bolt, Path to Exile
I've found that the biggest reason to include Omen/Valakut in Naya is the fact that most control decks are packing a lot of creature removal, but not a lot of non-creature removal. They can either bounce/counter the Omen with Cryptic Command, or they can try to kill your Valakuts with Tectonic Edge. To that extent, I thought about adding some Sun Titans to the mix (the Wargate Omen decks usually have a couple in the board), but they are almost always too expensive and usually get countered.
More on this to follow...
