Hey all,
Ryan Witte and I are going to be doing our own version of Running the Gauntlet with a few Modern decks on Saturday. This is going to be very similar to the video series that LSV puts up on ChannelFireball. Here's how it works: - We take one deck that we want to test against the perceived field. - We run a set of 3 complete matches against each deck in the field. A complete match includes sideboarding. - Afterwards, we discuss what went well and what went wrong, and make adjustments as necessary. - In order to expand our knowledge of the field, and to give some diversity, we'll swap sides for at least one of the three matches. - Everything will need to be recorded, including game/match results, how sideboarding took place, what cards were good/bad, and how the matches were won/lost.
The perceived field for right now is going to include stock lists of the following decks: - Green 12 post - Domain Zoo - Tribal Zoo - Jund - Twin combo - Hive Mind - Affinity - <insert some sort of control deck here> - <any other popular deck we missed based on MTGO Daily Events>
If anyone else is interested in helping with this, let us know. Ideally, we'd do this in pairs so that no one has to sit out. My desktop and my laptop will also be available with copies of Magic Workstation in case we don't have enough proxied decks available.

Well, that's depressing. Degenerate combos and flinging Emrakuls win. I really want to play in THAT format.

There will need to be a few more bannings before the format develops. The same thing happened when they introduced legacy. The first GP that used the format was full of combo decks because of "Hulk Flash." They obviously figured out what needed to be changed because Legacy is still going pretty strong.
I'm not sure what gets the axe though. Splinter-Twin has 8 copies available for each part of the combo. Shoal-Infect is just so reliable because of all the tutoring Sam's version built in. It's really a pretty strong deck and the deck just kind of imploded on him in the semis.
Either additional cards will go on or some will come off to try and make control a stronger option. Da Rosa's BWG rock deck did well at the event. Granted, it's at least a $1k deck.
EDIT: Also, Misty will be running tournaments starting this weekend.
11:30 Start; 11: am registration Format: MTG Modern constructed Entry Fee $5 you play 4 rounds, and prizes are given out based on record. 4-0 = 5 packs 3-0-1 = 4 packs 3-1 = 3 packs 2-2 = 1 pack This tournament will be DCI sanctioned
