For those of you who are not willing to drop $100s on duals and whatnot, this is a thread for some of the cheaper deck ideas in the format that are still competitive. For example... Combo Elves: sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=44242The only lands it needs are one Verdant Catacombs (~$10) and some basic Forests. Nothing in the list is over $20 apiece, the most expensive card is probably Glimpse of Nature at $15, and a lot of the cards are commons/uncommons.

I very much support the decks listed in that article. All of those are strong contenders in Legacy and change very little over time. The sideboards change more than the main deck most of the time, just to combat bigger threats in the metagame.
I will say I prefer Goblins with a green splash because Krosan Grip is amazing to have. Or a black splash to offer some disruption through discard. However, that adds 4 fetch/4 duals to the deck simply to be able to run a few copies of a $3 uncommon, so it may not be practical "on a budget."

If you wanted to invest in one thing right now for legacy, I'd say grab a playset of Wastelands. They are extremely commonly used, and you can make a variety of decks with them.
Cheers

Somehow this extremely-budget Merfolk list finished in 5th place: sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=50323No Force of Will, no Jitte, no Wasteland, no Mutavault, not even any Mishra's Factory, only one Cavern of Souls. Instead, 4 Spreading Seas, 3 Merfolk LOOTER?!? and 4 Merfolk Sovereign. This is living proof that you can win cheaply in Legacy.

that list looks awesome and fun to play with. Probably a bit soft to combo but otherwise pretty cool

that list looks awesome and fun to play with. Probably a bit soft to combo but otherwise pretty cool Ya, but a couple more Dazes/Pierces would certainly shore that up. EDIT: Mindbreak Traps are also pretty cheap to acquire. At the very least, this would be a good place to start while one saves up the cash for Forces/Wastelands/etc.
