Discussing the future of Standard

So far on starcity the articles are just talking about card discussion, I haven't seen a lot of new lists outside of Gerry T's Griselbrand Reanimator and U/G Ramp. I'm sure by tomorrow we'll have a boatload of information. Chapin did post an article today talking about how good a lot of the Miracle cards are (Terminus, Entreat the Angels, Bonfire of the Damned, Temporal Mastery, etc), but nothing that isn't already too obvious. The first three I mentioned should all see play though, they do have relatively high power levels.

Anywho, a couple of events coming up over the next few weeks, I'm curious who is interested in doing some of these:

April 27th - 29th: Avacyn Restored Prerelease

May 5th and 6th: Draftapalooza at Ben Rasmussen's house

May 12th and 13th: SCG 5k Madison (12th; Standard, 13th; Legacy and Draft Opens)

May 19th and 20th: GP Minneapolis (Standard)

May 26th: TCG Player Platinum Event Niles, IL (Pastimes) (Standard)
May 27th: TCG Player Silver Event Niles, IL (Pastimes) (Standard)

June 2nd/3rd: SCG 5k Columbus, OH and SCG IQ Tourney Minneapolis (Standard)

I'm willing to carpool to just about any of these events as long as we try to plan it at least a *little* in advance. This is a great opportunity to build/repair a deck and play it for more than one tournament if this appeals to any of you. Please post on here or let me know via text / facebook any of it sounds good. We can definitely make this stuff cheaper via carpools.

As for the GP in Minneapolis, I'd probably be looking to do a hotel for that one, something very cheap like $50-60 a night (split amongst 4 people).

I'm in for May 12th (Sat) but not May 13th (Sun). Need more details on this whole draft-apalooza thing. Also, what's the difference between a Platinum and Silver event?

For Minneap, here's some current cheap hotel prices / possibilities:

Hilton Garden Inn (these are actually pretty nice places); Eden Prarie (19 min google maps drive to tourney site) $67 per night up to 4 adults

Here's some possible cost breakdowns if we purchase hotel rooms relatively soon-

Madison 5K:

$30 Entree Standard Saturday

$30 Entree Legacy Sunday

$30 Draft Open Events

GP Minneapolis:

2 Night Stay for 4 people at Microtel Inn & Suites with tax included:
$30.50 per person.

Standard Tournament Entry for Saturday: $40

Food for the weekend: $30

Gas (divided by 4 people, used AAA fuel cost calculator)
$20 per person

Total: Roughly $120 per person, covers all of the above for the whole weekend.

My Grandma lives about 25 minutes from Niles, a few of us have stayed there before for an event and I'm sure we could probably arrange that again.

How many are planning on going to GP Minneapolis? I'd be willing to chip in for a hotel, since my parents have pretty much converted my room into storage space.

I'm going to be testing R/W Humans over the next few FNMs, maybe more of my b/RW mid-range. The local metagame is so warped I have no idea what's actually good.

Not sure if Avacyn Restored will be legal yet for this event. If it is, all bets are off. If not, expect more of the same: a lot of UW Delver, some RG aggro, some BW tokens, some Esper control, etc.

After all the testing we've done I am not going to play red at the scg. Both big red and rdw sucks and I don't care what the build they just aren't competitive enough.

I'm going to sell some cards, probably tomorrow, and build Jasper's mono-black zombie list from the ptq. He steam rolled that entire field, losing only in the top 4 to the eventual champion who had a nightmare sideboard for him. Not many decks are actually playing pillar so I think Jaspers deck is still decent. Here's his list and what I'm missing-
