In case you haven't seen it yet www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/arcana/1035$75 seems a little crazy and I wish they would stop printing those stupid over-sized commanders. Whether this is worth it will of course highly depend on what else is being printed. Foil Sylvan Library has many people hoping for other goodies. On that topic...what would like to see included in here?

The picture at the end appears like command tower. From looking at mtgcommander.net, it appears they are also doing Mimeoplasm. That sucks ( my previous thoughts on Mimeoplasm). On the mtgcommander.net site, it specifically says "Much-desired premium versions of certain commanders previously unavailable in foil!!! Booyah!" I don't know what sorts of commander they would reprint. They could either go Johnny/Timmy and reprint Phelddagrif or Spike and go Sliver Queen. For my money, I expect Phelddagrif but a man can hope for something he would play so maybe they'll do Sliver Queen... I fully expect Niv Mizzet due to the pic from Return to Ravnica (prob as an oversized card). I would also assume the G/B general from Return to Ravnica as an oversized card. I wouldn't be surprised they pull out the top 10 generals by popularity (or maybe 7-8 and then throw in two non-popular ones to be highlighted as Timmy/Johnny bait). As to other generals, I might expect Jhoira of the Ghitu but she overlaps colors with Niv Mizzet. The list of reliably played generals is somewhat small. Mana Crypt would be an interesting choice. It's not on the no-reprint list and they haven't reprinted it yet (but it's too busted to release in a legal set). Plus the price is creeping up out of reasonable range for EDH usage. Additionally, there is no foil version of the card. Demonic tutor is another missing from the no-reprint list. There is the Judge promo, so I don't know if they would want to ruin the value on that. No reprint list is here: www.wizards.com/magic/tcg/article.aspx?x=magic/products/reprintpolicy

What I like most about that announcement is that they are going to do commander decks every year!

Mana Crypt is already a judge foil, which was released last season. That doesn't rule it out as a possible inclusion though.
Sliver Queen is on the reserved list, so they can't do a regular size version. I'd be willing to bet many of the large cards are legends they can't reprint in a tourney legal version.
Niv will likely get a new version in RTR and he's featured in the upcoming duel deck. They might do something to tie him in...but he's such an unpopular combo general I'd be willing to lean more toward Jhoira getting some sort of special printing here.
My hope is that most of the regular-sized cards slots will not be wasted on generals. I'm sure many people would vastly prefer seeing staples of the format that have not been done in foil or hard to get. Bribery, Tooth and Nail, Greater Good, and Demonic Tutor are all examples of great cards that could easily be included.
That would make so much more sense than having 10/18 cards be the 3-color generals from the commander decks and then tossing in a few hot utility cards that will actually drive the price of the set.
I would love it if they threw in some good old crazy stuff, like The Abyss, Mana Drain, or Force of Will...but then you'd never see a single one of these listed at under 2x RRP.

I'm less thrilled about having the commander sets coming out every year. Due to them having new cards, it just creates a new set of cards I need to acquire to keep on top of things. I posted my thoughts on cardboard creep in the trading forums if you want.

I've been watching a lot of the Cube drafting videos on ChannelFireball and some other sites, and I've seen a lot of older cards with newer/alternate artwork (Sylvan Library is a good example). I would expect more of these alternate artworks to show up.

Is there a list somewhere of what cards they did alt art work for the MTGO cube drafts?
Another note, I'm seeing reports that this will be limited to 2-4 copies per store.

I haven't seen an official list anywhere, but after watching a number of videos online (which BTW are pretty fun to watch), I can probably think of at least a dozen or so off the top of my head. There was quite a range, if I remember right, from small stuff like REB/BEB to bigger stuff like Force of Will/Land Tax. They also used promo pics and judge foil pics whenever possible, like on Survival of the Fittest and Spiritmonger.

FWIW, from the latest cube video on ChannelFireball, I saw the following alt-art cards: - Future Sight - Kjeldoran Outpost - REB - Karakas - Spiritmonger - BEB - Basalt Monolith - Serendib Efreet - Fireblast - Tendrils of Agony - Balance - Channel

The only things on there I can see making it in are Basalt Monolith and Future Sight. The others are either banned or just not staples of the format.

They announced the full list of cards: www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/feature/218c&dcmp=ilc-mtgrss#82818Guess they did reprint Sliver Queen, just as an oversized card... The real money appears to be the P3K cards. The problem is neither is that awesome for Commander IMO. On the oversized cards, I'm happy to see Zur, Mayael, Brion Stoutarm and Glissa the Traitor. Sliver Queen is meh but does give the opportunity to those who want to play slivers without coughing up $20-$30 for her in regular form. With Grimgrin and Karrthus, I don't know. I haven't seen Grimgrin played and Karrthus is an ok general. Godo, Azusa, and Karn all seem meh. Azusa and Karn will be played but they aren't amazing generals. Godo just seems bad.

This seems like a most excellent box set that I will have to acquire.

This seems like a most excellent box set that I will have to acquire. Good luck finding it for anything remotely close to MSRP. I've seen presales on ebay as high as $250 and I imagine most store will mark it up to $125-150. I think allocation is something like 3 for core and 5 for advanced. While I do think it has some good cards included, I'm not going to go crazy about it. The only cards in there I don't have are the P3K legends. Retainer would be nice in Karador, but I can live without them. The red one is cool, but also not that amazing.

Evan, I heard on multiple forums that allocation was bumped up to the 3/5 numbers.
Also, yeesh. Glad I have everything I already want out of these.
