I don't know about the rest of you but I've been missing playing standard ptqs and scg tourneys. The main reason for me getting out of that game was money which is still an issue but I want to try at some point to figure out a way to scrape enough together to build something competitive once RTR comes out and play in a few tourneys. Anyone else interested in attended one of those at some point?
And yes I know some of you will probably jump on here and suggest legacy with it being a better "value" format but as much as I don't mind playing it standard is just my cup of tea always. Everyone has their format they like and that's always been mine

Yeah have been missing it too. If you know a way to make it either pay for itself, or a way to get extra cash via side jobs like construction, I'd be in.

Here's a question: are you guys really missing Standard, or just missing the competition aspect of things?
<shameless Legacy plug> If you're missing the competitive side of Magic, they have tournaments for Legacy as well, like the one up in Minnesota last week. As we found out a few weeks ago, I have just about everything for two competitive Legacy decks (got my third Jace on the way in a trade) and I'm always working on more of them. <end shameless Legacy plug>
If you REALLY have your heart set on playing Standard, the number one thing I would do is focus on those shock-lands. Y'all remember when Zendikar came out? The first thing I did was scour eBay for a full set of all the new fetch-lands, because as soon as I had all my sets, I knew I could build literally any deck I wanted to. It's gonna be the same concept with RTR.
Can't stress this one enough: do whatever you have to do to acquire all your shocks - draft em, trade for em, eBay em, whatever it takes. They'll be the foundation of Standard play for many months, just like the Zendikar fetches were.

Why is every post or conversation with Travis always a lesson plan as if I were a student and he were a teacher.
Dude, we aren't under a rock here.
That said, I guess my post was dumb to begin with, back to normal life activities. . .

To be fair, I give lessons to people for a living, and unfortunately that tends to spill over into non-professional areas. I don't mean to be grating, but I can understand how that might come across.
Also to be fair, you did ask.
All fairness aside, I do have a full set of shocks that I can loan out if it will help.

I really like standard right now, and am excited for rotation as well. Trading is usually solid, buying cards off ebay/mtgsalvation instead of from Dan helps the pocketbook as well. If you want to get back into standard before rotation, I typically have 2 standard decks built and would be happy to lend you one for the night.
Cheers Evan

I will say that I think standard is going to become a lot more appealing in the near future, once all ten shocks are available. Being able to splash any color any time should mean a lot more room for creativity.

I don't know about spashing any color. If you remember from Extended Zoo, starting your life at 15 sometimes backfires vs aggro. Looking at the creatures that they are printing, there's going to be a crazy aggro. There's a 2/1 for G/W!? 1/1 flying for W/U (that can force spike if sacrificed)! 2/1 trample where you can discard a creature card and put a +1/+1 counter on it with regenerate for BG!
It's easy to image a 5/4 regenerator trampling (with helpfully discarding 3 other cards) in on turn 3. Hope you got your unsummon or this is going to be a fast game...

lets not forget the M13 cycle of creatures that all get +1/+1 if another land is in play. The blue flier and the green hasty guy are quite potent

The blue flier and the green hasty guy are quite potent I don't know if the green one is playable in an aggro deck (haste for R is only good the first turn you play it out, and thus it's not going to be swinging in turn 2). I would assume the black one is playable because a 3/3 unblockable is pretty good and the blue one has a very potent ability in aggro vs aggro (lifelink is awesome).

I think the green one seems fine. 3/3 for two or 3/3 haste for three both seem just fine.
