Ran into a guy on MWS sporting the following list:
1 Back to Basics
4 Counterbalance
1 Detention Sphere
4 Energy Field
4 Rest in Peace
4 Sensei's Divining Top
2 Luminarch Ascension
(20)
2 Helm of Obedience
(2)
4 Enlightened Tutor
4 Force of Will
4 Spell Pierce
4 Brainstorm
(16)
4 Strand
8 Island
1 Marsh Flats
2 Misty Rainforest
2 Plains
2 Polluted Delta
1 Scalding Tarn
2 Tundra
(22)
Side:
1 Arcane Laboratory
1 Circle of Protection: Red
1 Cursed Totem
1 Detention Sphere
4 Flusterstorm
1 Humility
1 Nevermore
1 Pithing Needle
4 Swords to Plowshares
Now, awhile back I used to have an Energy Field deck, so when I saw this on the other side, I was very much intrigued. I ended up winning 2 out of 3 games with the version of Evan's junk control list, but the list itself was really cool. Some notable interactions:
- Energy Field + Rest In Peace = Energy Field can't die because nothing can hit your yard. As the guy told me, some decks simply fold to this card.
- RIP + Helm of Obedience is the same as the old Helm/Leyline combo: you have both in play, activate Helm for 0, and you win (since again, nothing can go into your yard).
- Four main-deck RIPs are also pretty strong against all sorts of decks. Nevermind the usual suspects like Dredge and Reanimator, this deck has a really good matchup against Knights of the Reliquary, Snapcaster Mage, and others.
- Enlightened Tutor is a total house in this list. It functions a lot like Green Sun's Zenith in that it can get all of your silver bullets.
The guy mentioned that he would like to find room for another Detention Sphere somewhere, and I was mostly able to beat him because I resolved threats like Choke, Deed, and Liliana. Ensnaring Bridge might not be the worst idea, or Land Tax/Mox Diamond.
But, the REAL point of this thread is frickin' ENERGY FIELD! I love that card!
