I'm looking at what deck I should play in Modern, and I'm not sure what I want to play. The three big options are Pod, Affinity, or Zoo and each has upsides and downsides. Pod: I feel pod is likely the best deck in the format. Wizards has pushed the power level on creatures so far that Pod allows you to chain up to victory. You can also be semi pre-sideboarded vs many decks. It's also the deck with a bunch of $10 cards and needs a bunch of one-offs which makes it easier to assemble (because I already have a ton of the one-offs due to EDH and playing for the last few years). Thing is, you'll see this deck all day long at tournaments so the mirror is likely less fun than I might expect. Also, I think Athreos is an amazing Pod target (give me back my creature or take 3 each turn) and will likely push the deck into a more junk setup. Affinity: The most explosive deck in the format. It's a deck that will destroy someone that stumbles. I own the deck minus a few very cheap pieces so it'll be easy to assemble. I really like the deck, and until Athreos was spoiled I was going to play this deck. Zoo: I think Zoo is the most stable of the decks here. It's also the least powerful. Tribal Flames + Lightning Bolt + Lightning Helix gives the deck amazing endgame reach and you can play a ton of different sideboard cards due to all the colors (infinite hate bears!). A 5 color zoo could also run such standouts as Bob or Athreos. The problem is this deck requires 4 Tarmogoyfs at $100 apiece
