Thoughts on this are welcome.
I'm missing the following cards from it:

- 1 Horizon Canopy - incoming via trades
Other cards I don't exactly have: - 2 Windswept Heath (using Verdant Catacombs instead) - 1 Gaea's Cradle (can't bring myself to put my near-perfect Judge Foil Cradle in a deck).
EDIT: A stock UW Stoneblade list, again for my own records mostly...

Honestly, I kind of like the Bant List more.
Another piece of tech I saw mentioned somewhere is Garruk over an Elspeth

Garruk Wildspeaker. Making tokens to hold swords and possibly doing an overrun are both pretty strong.
I prefer geist in a 3-color deck that's more focused on turning dudes sideways. Clique is better in a more counter-heavy deck.

Garruk Wildspeaker. Making tokens to hold swords and possibly doing an overrun are both pretty strong. That makes sense. I wonder if anyone thought to try Garruk Relentless in a similar role...he makes dudes and he can I prefer geist in a 3-color deck that's more focused on turning dudes sideways. Clique is better in a more counter-heavy deck. Boo...I just traded my two Geists away.

Looks like a lot of Maverick lists did well at the StarCity tournaments over the weekend. Five of the top 8 lists were some form of GW Maverick. The interesting thing is that most of them are cutting/reducing the Stoneforge Mystic plan in favor of more Scavenging Oozes and Sylvan Librarys. Unfortunately, this caused Scavenging Ooze to double in price over the weekend (from $20 to $40).
More on this to follow...

Yeah. Ooze has been trending upwards for awhile now. I looked for some counterpunch decks when I was out this weekend, but most of the big retailers on the east side have been cleaned out.

I saw that CardKingdom still claims to have 100 of them at $35 apiece, which seems like a good deal. The rest of the set includes a Skullclamp, Lightning Greaves, Sol Ring, and Command Tower. I'm hoping I don't have to pull the trigger on something like that, but if that's what it takes...
I also did some trend analysis of all the Maverick decks in the Top 16 from the Legacy Open and Invitational tournaments. There were 7 total lists, including two from the same person (although the lists themselves were different), and the pilots included the likes of Todd Anderson, Pat Cox, and Brian Kibler. Almost all of the seven lists had the following cards in common: - 4 Knight of the Reliquary - 4 Mother of Runes - 4 Noble Hierarch - 2 to 4 Qasali Pridemage - 3 Scavenging Ooze
- 1 to 2 Sylvan Library (an awesome card in this deck, BTW)
- 4 Swords to Plowshares
- 2 Umezawa's Jitte
- 1 Gaddock Teeg - 3 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
- 1 Elspeth, Knight-Errant
- 4 Green Sun's Zenith
- 2 or 3 Forests - 1 Plains
- 1 or 2 Horizon Canopy - 1 Maze of Ith - 1 or 2 green fetches (any of the three) - 4 Savannah - 4 Wasteland - 4 Windswept Heath - 1 Dryad Arbor - 1 Gaea's Cradle - 1 Karakas
The one choice that went almost right down the middle was the two spots taken up by either Stoneforge Mystic or Aven Mindcensor. 3 decks ran Mindcensor, and 3 decks ran Stoneforge.
Other things I noticed: - There wasn't a single copy of Batterskull in any of these lists. Only two of the lists ran Swords (either Light and Shadow or Body and Mind). - About half of the lists managed to squeeze a single Scryb Ranger into the creature mix.
As for sideboarding, each one was pretty diverse. - The only card that every list ran was 1 Bojuka Bog (probably the one I tore into pieces and threw out of my sun roof after that one event in Illinois where Uttke told me to run it). Most lists had 1 or 2 Paths, 2 Canonists, 2 or 3 Chokes, 1 or 2 Linvalas, and 1 or 2 Tormod's Crypts. - About half of the lists ran a single copy of Gideon Jura and/or Elspeth, Knight-Errant. - In addition to the Bog and T-Crypts, about half of the lists ran 1 or 2 more grave-haters in the form of either Grafdigger's Cage, Purify the Grave, Relic of Progenitus, Surgical Extraction, or Wheel of Sun and Moon. - About half the lists ran 2 or 3 Gut Shots in the board (presumably for opposing Hierarchs and Delvers). - Dauntless Escort, Enlightened Tutor, Kitchen Finks, and Thrun, the Last Troll were each used only once by only one person.
In summary, it looks like some pretty drastic changes were made over the weekend, and they seem to have produced some very good results. Whether or not this weekend was a fluke is TBD, but it definitely presents a new look to this type of deck.

UPDATE: Received two more copies of Thalia in the mail last night, bringing my total to 3, which is enough to run the original list I posted earlier. So, I think I'll try to make an appearance on either Saturday or Sunday to see what this thing can really do.
