My evening was well spent. Ended up going 3-1 with stock UW-blade. Best part, the last of my three prize packs had a foil sorin. So yeah, worth the time. Way to go, sack. at least now I feel better about playing maverick. What was the meta like?

Sheesh. Nice rip Andrew. My fat pack wasn't bad with two grafdigger's cage and a black mike. But that's silly.

The meta is actually pretty diverse. I played against a SneakyShow deck (only loss) and then against URW Delver, Hive Mind, and Goblins. Looking around, I saw some enchantress, zoo, and at least two Maverick, along with a few storm combo decks.
Most of the crowd was very friendly and fun to play against. I had a good time.

Yeah I just hate Smar so freaking much I can't stand to play legacy on the chance that I'll play him. But most of the people are cool.
Cheers

Who/what is Smar?
On another note, I'm considering purchasing a "white-bordered" Maze of Ith for $23 shipped. Thoughts?

That is the exact card I was looking at. By "white-bordered", I meant "heavy play". Guess I'll pull the trigger on this one then.

Ah, I thought you meant borders erased. That's actually a thing. I had a sword of fire and ice like that, which I picked up for like $2 at one point.

So what are the two of you planning on playing? I've been doing some good reading on Star City. Apparently brainstorm was not in the top two decks of the legacy open.

I'm going to play some kind of Maverick deck, either Naya or GW or maybe Bant (I now have two Vendilion Cliques and three Flooded Strands, but no Jace TMS).

After further review, I'm missing the following cards from the stock punishing maverick list: 1 goyf 1 stp 2 choke 1 stony silence 1 e tutor 2 reb This assumes I can substitute shocks for duals and Zen fetches for onslaught fetches. I also need to have my karakas and maze delivered from eBay in time. Crossing my fingers! ...oh, and I need to learn the format Edit: also, I only need four cards for the gw maverick list... 1 noble hierarch 1 scavenging ooze 2 choke Again, assuming shocks and Zen duals and eBay and stuff.

So how bout something like this?
4x Thrumming bird 4x Tangle wire 4x Parallax wave 4x Parallax tide 3x intuition 2x Eternal witness 2x Anjani vengeant? 2x venser? 3x contagion clasp 3x flickerwisp 2x Contagion engine 3x Sun titan 3x mox diamond
2x Wasteland 4x ancient tomb 4x Saprazzan skerry 4x remote farm 4x tendo ice bridge 4x gemstone mine
My general goal is to play out a quick tangle wire, parallax wave/tide/ajani to slow down their game, then to play venser and sun titan shennanegans and then prolieferate the crap out of all those. There are obvious other shennanegans such as removing counters in response to flickerwisp/venser in order to permanently rfg things. Dropping a third turn sun titan. Dropping a mox diamond and then getting the land back with titan. Killing a depletion land then getting it back via titan.
Other ideas I have out of the cards I have are Metalworker combo -- I still have this deck, but in pieces scattered about. I feel like it could win out turn two fairly easily enchantress-- I have most if not all the pieces I'd need for this I can almost build the goblins deck

The Tangle Wire part sounds like something out of a Stax deck. You might want to do a little research on some of those decks to get more ideas. I'm not an expert on the format, but I believe that 6-drops are generally too slow for this format. All the lists I've seen usually top their curve out at four or five.
