My choice for Standard right now depends on whether or not I can find two more Huntmasters. If I can do that, I'll be running something very close to the Human Reanimator list that Brad Nelson and Brian Braun-Duin piloted at the recent SCG event in Atlanta: sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=52786If I can't find any more Huntmasters, I might try something like this: sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=52816. It's kinda like a Standard version of the Legacy BUG Delver list that was rather popular a month or two ago. This version doesn't have expensive old stuff like Wasteland, Force of Will, Goyf, or fetches, but it has a lot of the other business that made it succeed in Legacy. Kind of a cool idea, actually.

Im pretty sure we'd be able to find the huntmasters by tournament time, at least to borrow if anything. I wrote down a list for you at tonight's win-a-box (which was awesome and I was 2 points of life away from splitting) which is similar to Brian bruins' but only runs 3 huntmaster and also runs kessig malcontents. Btw, not sure if you are aware but the cartels are in there for some infinite combos. With huntmaster, angel of glory's rise, and fiend hunter you can gain infinite life and wolf tokens and with malcontents instead of huntmaster you can do infinite damage. The combo is pretty reliable and pretty insane, I got combo'd out on turn 5 in game 1 of our match (thankfully I still barely won the match).
Anyway his list was good and you should have no trouble building it, ill post it here later when I have it in my hand again.

I assume that he just cut a Huntmaster for a Malcontent, or something like that.
Ya, send me the list whenever you get it...looks really neat.

Here's his list to the best of my scrawling-
Alex's Human Reanimator Combo
4 Angel of Glory's Rise 4 Fiend Hunter 2 Kessig Malcontents 3 Huntmaster of the Fells 3 Cartel Aristocrat
4 Chronic Flooding 3 Grisly Salvage 4 Mulch 2 Izzet Charm 3 Faithless Looting 4 Unburial Rites
24 Lands 2 Godless Shrine 2 Sacred Foundry 2 Glacial Fortress 2 Sulfur Falls 2 Steam Vents 2 Breeding Pool 2 Hallowed Fountain 2 Overgrown Tomb 1 Sunpetal Grove 1 Isolated Chapel 1 Stomping Ground 1 Clifftop Retreat 1 Woodland Cemetery 1 Hinterland Harbor 1 Rootbound Crag 1 Temple Garden
Sideboard: 3 War Priest of Thune 3 Cathedral Sanctifier 3 Zealous Conscripts 3 Izzet Staticaster 3 Nightshade Peddler
He said he'd like to make some changes to the sideboard, and possibly go up to x4 Cartel maindeck and x4 looting. It was an early list for him but it seemed to be doing ok in the tournament. You'd have to apply a healthy dose of your own testing to whichever build you ultimately configure.

Holy five-color manabase, Batman! I'm not sure I'd be so greedy as to play all five colors, although the Peddler combo is pretty sick. I'm also not terribly thrilled with Chronic Flooding or Izzet Charm...I think I might prefer the ramp/fix approach with Farseek.
I will say that I like the idea of using War Priest (human) over Ray of Revelation, since it allows for interaction with Cavern of Souls and Fiend Hunter.

So, unfortunately I cannot come to Standard tomorrow night (taking her to the movies to see Identity Theft, others are certainly welcome to join). Would anyone be up for testing some Standard or Legacy this weekend, either in person or on MWS/Cockatrice?

Tomorrow is Thursday, Standard is Friday.
Also, Christy and I have a gift card for point cinema and were planning to see that movie with it, what day/time are you going?

It seems that the current meta is all about the cheap, efficient aggro decks that curve out perfectly on the first three turns. Naya humans, zoo, gruul aggro, and rdw all have the "nut draw" that is nearly impossible to beat. I think going forward any other competitive decks will have to be able to handle that on a regular basis.

I think we're very early in this format and that the heavy aggro is going to balance out. I was keeping a good eye on the SCG coverage when we were at the shop on Saturday and there were a lot of Esper Control decks featured including the one that took second place- sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=52968Considering I've been playing Standard about twice a week in tournaments for the last 3-4 months I can tell you that I've seen just about all 8-10 archetypes represented on a regular basis. While I think its a good plan to be prepared for aggro, things could balance out or shake up with new decks by the time we hit Milwaukee in April. We discussed the cyclical nature of the format, especially on the weekly SCG level, and I think it will eventually come around. The power level of creatures right now are stronger than spells in standard, but there's still a lot to work with and near-perfect manabases to support just about anything.

John, or anyone else who has a premium membership to SCG, would you mind posting the article that Mike Flores wrote about his Selesnya midrange deck? There's a lot of cards in his list (Thrag's, Resto's, Garruk PH's, Townships, etc) that I'd like to experiment with.
