Abrupt decay really hurt brandon's deck IMO. Still give it a shot if you want, I haven't actually played against it recently so I'm just theorizing.
Cheers

That makes sense Evan, didn't think about that card coming out after. Still worth a test but yeah that probably is a big factor. Zach - I really can't afford to sponsor cash ahead of time, I've tried to get out of the habit for that because it usually takes forever to get the money or someone drops out or cough in travis's case doesn't bring the correct amount. If you can get me the money soon then cool otherwise we'll look for another 4th

Sorry I didn't have exact change, the ATM was too busy robbing me of $3 to spit out anything but a $20 bill.
I have the correct change set aside in my wallet now, so the next time we play, I can give it to you.

Alright. I can't be in Madison on a Friday for the next three weeks. Are there any weekend events coming up? And if nothing else, I could put a check in the mail.

Wasn't anything personal meant guys, I'm just financially not in great shape and the tourney is already a stretch. I've also just had experiences with delayed paybacks in the past was all. Anyways, moving on. . .
Talked to people at the shop today. Carl, Mike, and JR, three guys who regularly play at the shop, are all interested in the hotel idea. If we can get one more this week we have 2 hotel rooms we can book between the 8 of us (me, Travis, Pat, Zach, those 3 + 1). I was planning to collect cash from everyone either Friday or Saturday depending on when you could get it to me and then order the hotel on Sunday. Friday there's standard at Mox Mania which I might be able to make (not sure) and Saturday Draft (same thing). Or always could drop by my house, etc.
Other option for those in Zach's shoes would be to PayPal or mail it to me. It would be $30, my info is as follows-
PayPal - polizei608@Gmail.com John Galli 9119 Waterside St. Apt 203 Middleton, WI 53562
Let me know ASAP and let me know if you know anyone else interested

DAAAAAAAAMN YOU KIIIIIDZ!!!! Send me that list you found whenever you get a chance. I think I understand how to stack the triggers correctly (actually had to proxy a copy of each creature on scrap paper at work here to figure it out, but I got there).

Cool beans man. I did some digging around again and it looks like the tax on the hotels vary a bit due to the 4 people. The cheapest option including the tax is the Hampton Inn & Suites (a nicer hotel IMO anyways and right on Wisconsin Ave). It's $32 per person after tax. Ramada would have been $35 per person after tax. So Zach if you want to make it out for that (unless you already dropped it in the mail). Travis, Pat, let me know when you can get it to me this weekend and I'll book on Sunday before prices hopefully go up. This is the hotel- www.hamptonmilwaukee.com/I had a friend that worked there when I lived in Milwaukee and it was pretty nice with a good lounge downstairs.

Ok, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to be at a movie Friday with Christy, either with Travis and Jenna or separately. Saturday though I most likely would be up for either- - Draft @ Mox Mania - 3:30pm - Standard & Legacy testing This is probably the best day to pay me for the hotel, as we should really try to order by Sunday so the price doesn't hike. I'm actually debating not playing legacy on Sunday but would still want to be there to draft / side events. Not sure yet, but I think for me that is probably the better investment. @travis & Pat - hopefully you guys can at least swing by somewhere for a few min on Saturday to do that, let me know Zach - were you able to mail the monies? Btw, as far as the other car goes, JR dropped out due to financials and Carl was on the fence about the hotel anyways so it's probably just gonna be us 4 for the hotel (which works well) and meet up with a lot of the others onsite. Also the store owner's brother at Mox (Dan - who works there also) mentioned the sponsorship thing last time I was there again. It sounds like we could probably each get $5-10 for wearing a t-shirt or something if you guys are game. Obviously it's up to the individual and you'd probably have to come to the store and talk to them about it or try to play in some tourneys there like I do, but it'd be a nice bonus. I'll let you know more on this when I find out.

@saturday: I could probably show up for some testing practice...I need to get some games in for both formats.
@sponsorship: I have no problem doing something like that to help out a local shop that isn't fed/run by Dan Bock, and if it saves me a little money, all the better.

Would you be able to get there prior to the 3:30 draft by chance? I want to probably put that $12 towards the draft (unless I see you at the movies on Friday)
Alternatively we could just start much earlier at Mox (12:00pm) and do testing first and then draft

Yeah, went to send the money yesterday, only to realize I didn't have cash. It will go out tomorrow (Friday)
And I'm definitely willing to wear a tee shirt for money.

So we're just under a month out from this, just a recap on plans and confirmations: Travis secured a hotel with Jenna's reward points, sounds like it's about a 5 minute drive from the site. As far as I know, it's Pat, Travis, Me, and Zach coming later on his own? Testing: I'd like to try and get in at least 1 day a week up until the event. I'm willing to help others test legacy if they are willing to help me test standard. I'm not sure what events people are doing but I think testing both will benefit all. Let me know what days over the next month work. Tournament Testing: My funds and time are limited but I'm going to try to make at least 1-2 Mox Mania tournaments in the next month. Decks: The standard format right now is boiling down as such: Top Tier 1 Winners at most major events in the last 3 weeks and on MTGO: Jund Midrange, Naya Midrange, Junk Reanimator, Esper and 4-Color Control, Gruul/Naya/Jund Aggro. These are really the decks to beat or to play. Part of the strength of midrange right now is the strength of every creature they play. Cards like Boros Reckoner, Olivia Voldaren, Aurelia the Warleader, Obzedat Ghost Council, and Thragtusk are very difficult to beat all by themselves. Really it seems the only ways to not have a 50/50 matchup are to go over the top or to do something unfair. Reanimator for instance had a very good weekend (as I predicted) because they played 4-5 creatures that were bigger than most midrange cards (Angel of Serenity + Craterhoof) and they were able to cheat them in during some games (unburial rites). Other notes about the format: - Removal is surprisingly light, although some decks have more than others. Jund still is Jund and usually has Tragic Slip + Dreadbore + Mizzium Mortars + Bonfire + Abrupt Decay + Murder. Typically, this is why it has been doing well. Removal followed by Olivia and/or Huntmaster is hard to beat. A good example of how removal light this format is- mtgpulse.com/event/12563#175815- Esper and 4 Color Control, Jund, and Naya tend to crush small aggro in this format. Gruul Aggro is a heavily played deck, but unless you nut draw, play tight every round, and have a perfect sideboard, it's very difficult to do well consistently. You might top 8 hitting the proper matchups and having opponent stumbles but I wouldn't bank on it. - I'd like to change my deck choice if I can't find a way to improve it in the next 2 weeks. I hate doing this last minute, but my deck is just not a good choice. It loses to every deck in the field consistently unless my opponent stumbles except for reanimator. Thoughts on all this?

I am going with Human Reanimator for Standard and Jund Nic Fit with Burning Wish for Legacy. - Human Reanimator seems to have gotten a little better with the existence of Undercity Informer and Burning-Tree Emissary. I like the fact that it can reasonably cast a ton of creatures and also combo out if necessary. - For Legacy, Nic Fit decks usually have a pretty solid matchup against other "fair" decks like Jund, Junk, and most Delvers. The combo matchups are horrible, but honestly there just isn't that much I can do about that, outside of all the Cabal Therapy's I run and the numerous ways to flash them back. - Other than Nic Fit, I might also consider playing Esper Stoneblade, although I don't have much experience with that deck.

I'm probably not going to be coming to this one later. I'm gonna be tired from my 3:00 a.m. Road trip to lacrosse the previous day to care. Not to mention my limited experience in legacy. However, if anybody wants to borrow some of the cards from my junk reanimate list, or anything else I have, let me know!
