83rd don't pay the bills, homie.
More specifically, although I'm happy about picking a deck out of thin air and posting a decent record with it on limited sleep/energy, I'm not satisfied with the way I played and am looking forward to doing a whole lot better in the near future (until Dragon's Maze changes everything all over again). A 4-0-1 start is excellent, but a 2-3 finish is not, and realistically, that one tie would have been a loss if we had more time to play it out.
Records aside, there were a lot of little things I could have done better last weekend: - I've never played with Miracle cards before, but just the one single copy of Terminus is forcing me to completely re-learn how to draw a card in Magic, not only on my own turn, but on someone else's as well. That cost me all three times I could have "drawn a miracle". Also, not sure if Terminus should have been Planar Cleansing or not, since I have several D-Spheres. - There were several times in the day when I was thinking so much about the order in which I needed to do things that I simply spoke too soon and passed the turn without playing a land in my hand because I was so worried about keeping the correct colors open. I've never failed to land-drop so many times in one day before. - I screwed up several planeswalker activations throughout the day, especially on camera when I used Sorin to take his Jace AND tried to make a Vampire. Need to be better at that in the near future. Also, need to make sure I come prepared with enough tokens and emblems and whatnot. - Without any experience playing my deck, I didn't realize how all of the different draw spells I ran put so many things in so many different places. I had one sequence where I cast Augur and put things on the bottom of my deck, then Alchemy put three cards in my yard, and then Jace Architect put some more cards on the bottom.
Hopefully I'll be able to play some more Standard in between bowling seasons and stop making so many dumb choices.
